  2. FRENCH INVASION's SUITE

  1. The suite was once the hiding place of people running from the French soldiers during the Napoleonic wars. In the early nineteenth century, Napoleon Bonaparte and his troops headed to Portugal. During the second invasion they entered Portugal via Chaves heading to Braga in order to invade Porto. In Salamonde, the village next to Choqueira, the French defeated the Portuguese and headed south passing just outside the House of Choqueira. Meanwhile, the place where they kept their gold hidden from the French remained for almost two centuries.
